Carbon Fiber Recycle Industry Co., Ltd.

We have established a two-step pyrolysis method as a globally top-class energy-saving and economical CFRP recycling technology

We recycle carbon fiber for CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics) and sell recycled carbon fiber. Using our unique two-step pyrolysis method, we have developed a technology for inexpensive and efficient recycling and recovery of carbon fibers without shortening them. We have a 57,000 square meter production facility, which has the largest processing capacity in Japan at 3,500 tons per year, and a stockyard capable of holding 20,000 pallets. We aim to establish a recycled carbon fiber supply chain to distribute carbon fiber scrap as a recyclable material.

Overview
Business description
Carbon fiber recycling
The thermal decomposition gas of resin contained in carbon fiber end material is used as a heat source, so regeneration is possible with about one-thirtieth of the energy required for manufacturing new carbon fiber.

Sales of recycled carbon fiber
Recycled carbon fiber is being increasingly adopted as a reinforcement material for resin pellets in the automotive, home electronics, and civil engineering fields.
In addition, batch-type pyrolysis equipment can be used to treat an entire hydrogen tank at a time for recovery as a continuous fiber, so although it is recycled carbon fiber, it is expected to be used in advanced applications utilizing the strengths of long fibers as in the case of virgin carbon fiber.

Other
Consignment manufacturing of activated carbon
Consignment manufacturing of lithium-ion batteries
Consignment manufacturing of rare metals
Technology overview
Advantages of our business
The energy-independent two-step pyrolysis method, which we developed with Gifu University, is an energy-independent recycling technology that makes use of the energy of the material to regenerate it in its fibrous state while maintaining the characteristics of carbon fiber. Compared to other methods, it is low-cost and energy-saving, and the form and quality of the recovered carbon fiber are also excellent.

Business prospects
CFRP is lighter than steel and aluminum, has a high fatigue life, and does not rust, which makes it suitable for aircraft structural materials. It is also expected to be applied to automotive applications in the future to improve fuel efficiency by weight reduction of vehicle bodies. On the other hand, although Japan produces 70% of the world’s carbon fiber, currently it is difficult to recycle carbon fiber, and there is no practical technology yet. This is why the recycling technology we have jointly developed with Gifu University has been attracting attention.

Product uses
Because fibrous high-performance carbon fibers can be recycled, a wide range of product development is possible.

Examples of use
Molding materials (materials for injection molding, casting molding, etc.)
Carbon fiber paper, sheets, mats, and other applied products (conductive sheets, surface heating elements, electromagnetic shielding materials, antennas, audio components, etc.)
Mechanical parts (gears, spindles, housings, robot arms, water wheels, wind turbines, etc.)
Sporting goods
Structural components (such as automotive components)
