Fungal flora analysis
We have adopted hybrid fungal flora analysis that combines our unique culture technology for the meta-genome analysis of intestinal flora by using a next-generation sequencer. We have fused the molecular biological method of analyzing the occupancy of each intestinal fungus with the next-generation sequencer and our uniquely established culture technology of anaerobic bacteria (Akkermansia, Bacteroides, Bifidobacterium, Blautia, Clostridium, etc.) to enable the quantitative analysis of individual fungal counts per unit weight of excrement. This stable and quantitative hybrid fungal flora analysis has enabled the intestinal fungal flora to be grasped in detail, which used to be impossible with existing meta-genome analyses.
[Microbial library] The number of the intestinal bacteria in the intestinal tract of a human exceeds one thousand types and 100 trillion while the number of the somatic cells of a human is 37 trillion, and it is said that more than 70 percent of them are difficult to culture. NOSTER has succeeded in separating and culturing these enormous numbers of intestinal bacteria with our unique culture technology. In addition, we have separated some useful bacteria such as lactic acid bacteria from fermented food, plants, etc. We have constructed a bacterial library including more than two thousand strains from the gastrointestinal tract of humans and from nature by using the technology. [Lipid metabolites library] Lipid is not only used as an energy source or biological membrane component but also has great influence over the function of the living body of the host as a signal molecule, exercising a variety of biological activities as gradually understood through research in recent years. In addition, it is slowly being understood that lipids taken in through meals are not only converted into a variety of lipid metabolites by way of the metabolism of the host but also decorated in various ways through the metabolism of intestinal bacteria. NOSTER uses the lipid metabolism of intestinal bacteria to construct its original lipid metabolites library from substances of over 300 types and makes use of them as seeds for drug discovery. Moreover, we can provide fatty acid metabolites as standard products for analysis.
Functional fatty acid
NOSTER has developed synthesis technology for a variety of new fatty acids by using the lipid metabolites of intestinal bacteria. Among them, we have established a method for mass production of HYA (10hydroxy-cis-12-octadecenoic acid), in which we have confirmed physiological functions such as the suppression of the increase in blood sugar levels, the improvement of insulin resistance, the effect of preventing obesity, etc. We have productized the supplement "HYA®-50" which contains 50 percent of pure HYA® and are selling it under the healthcare brand "CUMEC." As of the present, we are focusing our efforts on the development of new drugs and advancing specific clinical research on HYA® for insulin resistant diseases.
