Candles on which flowers are painted by hand, painted candles, Arigato (thank you) candles, and Arigato products

“Echigo flower candles” are traditional crafts in Niigata. It has been said that “(Echigo candles) were developed to use instead of fresh flowers during the period in which people cannot find flowers for rituals since the winter is long in Niigata.” We are a leading shop specializing in Echigo flower candles. We develop new products almost every year and change our lineup of products in order to respond to the modern environment at all times in addition to respecting traditional cultures, painting flowers in all four seasons by hand using the “warmth of the hearts of people in Echigo” as our theme. We have striven to develop new designs and be in line with the times. As a result, we received an award from the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry in 2011, which was the best award for the craft category, in the Souvenir Review Board hosted by the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Additionally, we received an award from the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism in February 2015, which was the best award for the folk arts category. We also received many and various types of awards including three President Awards. Furthermore, we have provided Meiji Jingu with our products for over 20 years, and we have acquired a good reputation from famous shrines, temples including head temples, and so on. We have also delivered information on Japanese culture overseas and have participated in overseas exhibitions many times. Recently, we studied the “lights of Japanese candles and the Kotodama (belief that mystical powers dwell in words and names) of ‘thank you’.” Since the establishment of our “Arigato Shooten (thank you shop)” in Koike Rosoku Shop in 2015, we have developed “Arigato Products” and have provided unique new products almost every year.

HONOAKARI, “Japanese candles of yin and yang”

We received an award from the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism in February 2015, which was the best award for the folk arts category, in the Souvenir Review Board hosted by the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry. On their packages, we incorporated the meaning of yin, yang and five elements, using “comfort by lights” as a theme. We used the five traditional colors of vegetable dyeing in Japan and painted stars of five elements to express handscrolls and folding screens. We put a yin and yang symbol on the center of each candle. By combining fantastic traditional techniques with the environment surrounding modern society, we developed “HONOAKARI, Japanese candles of yin and yang” for restoring spiritual tranquility through the flickering lights of Japanese candles which reflect yin and yang in the world by the daring design.
