Kawatex Co., Ltd.
We developed FRP tanks that hold water without freezing, even at −20 °C.
Our main business is tank design, manufacturing, and maintenance. Other related business lines are plant design, manufacturing and maintenance, and steel structure design and manufacturing. Oil-related tank manufacturing remains our main business, but we are gradually expanding our business to enter the water tank field including drinking water tanks where food hygiene must be considered. We also used our base in Hokkaido to develop a hybrid FRP panel tank by injecting special polyurethane foam. This tank retains water without freezing even at −20 °C with its excellent heat-storage capacity, which is an indication of our technological strength.
Other presentation
[Company strength] Oil-related tanks have been our main products, but other food hygiene-related applications such as drinking water tanks have been increasing in recent years, driving the demand for tanks in general. Our main products are made of iron and steel, but we can also manufacture FRP-steel hybrid tanks. This manufacturing capability allows us to satisfy the increasing demand for more corrosion-resistant, low-maintenance tanks in both the private and public sectors, which can be regarded as our strength. [Business description] Our main business is tank design, manufacturing, and maintenance. Other related business lines are plant design, manufacturing and maintenance, and steel structure design and manufacturing. Our HQ plant is based in Sunagawa City, where we manufacture mostly composite products such as SF (steel and fiber) tanks to sell throughout Hokkaido. This plant is also used for manufacturing FRP insulation panels. We mostly handle product applications such as fire-fighting water tanks for the public sector, and underground tanks and above-ground oil tanks for gas stations. Our Okayama Plant in Mikasa City manufactures large cans for power stations and steel mills, and provides machining services with large cutting and machining tools. [Industry] Steel processing; tank manufacturing [Strength of products/technologies] Being based in Hokkaido is particularly helpful to us. We developed our hybrid panel tanks by injecting polyurethane foam into an FRP base. These tanks have excellent heat storage capabilities that prevent water from freezing even at −20 °C. The fact that these tanks can be used anywhere with a climate similar to Hokkaido is proof of this product’s strength. Extensive technology accumulated in many years of experience in oil tank and water tank manufacturing is another strength of our company. We can either replace an existing tank with a more corrosion-resistant tank, or apply lining or other treatment to an existing water tank, depending on the circumstances. [Representative's message] Our company has continued to satisfy the customer needs of the times, whether for iron or not, even during the time when iron was our main line of business. We hope to maintain this stance, and continue to provide whatever we can to bring further satisfaction to our customers. We are currently shifting our FRP composite business to CFRP, and there are other innovative technologies that we hope to focus on in the future. [Company structure for market development/overseas expansion] Our company already has an overseas operation site in Vietnam, and we hope to provide products and services to satisfy local needs in various fields. We plan to work out of Hokkaido to promote our technology in wider areas in the domestic Japanese market, and further expand the scope of application of our products. [Market share/Ranking] We have maintained a certain level of market share in Hokkaido. [Awards and media coverage] [Media] Hokkaido Kensetsu Shimbun; Nikkan Kensetsu Kogyo Shinbun; Nikkei newspaper; Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun; and so on. [Authorization/Certification] ISO 9001; contractor’s license (includes special construction work such as steel structures, construction, paint work, and plumbing, and general work such as civil engineering and scaffolding); Fire Equipment and Safety Center of Japan certification; Hazardous Materials Safety Techniques Association certification; crane manufacturing plant certification; Class 1 pressure vessel manufacturing plant certification; certified FRP lining provider for underground steel tanks. [Joint research and development] We develop technologies to improve GFRP production. [Intellectual property] We have two intellectual property applications regarding a hospital waste sterilizer and automatic feeder. [Main Clients / Business History (domestic)] Our products are delivered to many Japanese companies. [Main Clients / Business History (overseas)] We have a subsidiary in Vietnam in which we invested 30% of the capital jointly with Tamada Industries (Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture).
