Kishiro Hikari Kagaku Co., Ltd.
Our reflection mirrors are used in more than half of the world’s copy machines.
Our company provides high-quality, low-cost precision optical glass components through an integrated production system that covers cutting (from glass plate), polishing, and deposition. We have established a knowledge sharing system among our domestic Japanese and overseas production sites. These overseas sites can manufacture copy machine reflection mirrors, DVD player pickup parts, liquid crystal projector color filters, and other ultra-precision glass components based on this shared technology and knowledge. We offer approximately 300 types of reflection mirrors, and our products have acquired a 55% share of the global market in terms of unit sales. We will continue to focus on R&D to create new next-generation basic technology with the aim of entering new fields.
Other presentation
[Company strength] Our strength lies in our integrated production system that covers all processes from cutting to polishing and deposition. This allows us to manufacture high-quality parts faster and at a lower cost than the competition. We regard the core technology accumulated through this integrated production system as the source of our competitive advantage, and we try to introduce the latest technology to each manufacturing process. We support plastic and resin part molding, assembly, and processing in addition to glass processing and coating technologies. We have already established production sites outside Japan (two in China, and one in Vietnam). Our integrated production system is our strong point, and it can be supported by all these sites, which is an optimal situation for conducting business in the global market. [Business description] Our company has realized an integrated production system that covers all cutting (from glass plate), polishing, and grinding processes. It is used mainly for OA equipment optical glass components. This system makes it possible to provide high-quality, competitive products at low cost. The technology and know-how are shared by all the plants that we operate at various sites around the world. These plants manufacture ultra-high-precision glass components for copy machine reflection mirrors, DVD player pickup parts, and liquid crystal projector color filters. Our main products are reflection mirrors, for which we have a 55% share of the global market in terms of sales units, and we have 300 different types available. [Industry] OA equipment glass component and precision optical glass component manufacturing [Strength of products/technologies] We have a number of particularly excellent products. These include aluminum mirrors and UV/IR cut filters, as well as cold, hot, and dichroic mirrors. Cold mirrors reflect visible light while allowing infrared light to pass through. Hot mirrors reflect infrared light while allowing visible light to pass through. Dichroic mirrors reflect certain wavelengths of light while allowing other wavelengths to pass through. We offer a number of technologies. Cutting: The glass material can be 910 mm × 610 mm × a specified thickness. Edge line chamfering can be as thin as 5 mm in width, which can be automated for mass production. Polishing: Dimensional error after parallel surface grinding is within 0.3 to 0.5 microns when the processed plate is 0.02 mm in thickness, and the external dimensions are diameter 2 and up. Deposition: Our vacuum deposition can make 40 to 80 layers of aluminum/dielectric membrane. (We have inspection devices in place to ensure that our products meet customer requirements for surface accuracy, optical properties, and visual appearance.) [Representative's message] We have been accumulating glass polishing technology for over 46 years since our establishment in 1969, and our company has made use of this to establish an integrated system. It covers all processes from cutting to polishing as well as vacuum deposition in the OA and optical device industries in our efforts to provide high-quality products at low cost. We focus on R&D activities utilizing our accumulated technology. This is done to bring about the next generation of basic technology and to enter new fields. We are determined to work harder, aiming at greater success in the new era. [Company structure for market development/overseas expansion] We are developing our existing domestic Japanese sales operations in the B-to-B field as well as potential B-to-C markets through online shopping. We introduced vacuum molding and injection molding equipment in our internal framework for overseas expansion. The goal is to increase our supply of products to the ASEAN region, which has accelerated our entry into new fields, while boosting our existing business. We plan to set up foreign-language websites to fuel our overseas expansion efforts. We aim to expand our marketing capabilities for emerging markets, and to acquire new Japanese and non-Japanese customers in the ASEAN region. [Market share/Ranking] Our optical glass components for OA equipment have a share of more than 55% of the global market in terms of unit sales.
