Horio Seisakusho Co., Ltd.

We supply zinc die casting parts that provide high added value.

We are a manufacturer that specializes in precision zinc die casting. We handle antennas for automobiles and cellular phones, and structural products for security cameras. We have achieved high-precision casting for pickup parts for DVD recorders, which require high precision. This was done by making use of die casting, which had been considered difficult. We now have a global share of about 30% of the market for optical pickup parts. We have achieved a tension strength of 500 MPa, which is 1.7 times the conventional value, in our new die casting zinc alloy developed in 2010. This is how we made it possible to replace high-strength parts made by machining precious metal injection molding, SUS, brass, and so on.

[Company strength]
Our strength is that we achieve high quality, high precision, and low costs by making use of our inventive ideas and technological improvements. (1) We conduct processing from die design to manufacturing and pursue precision to the utmost limit. (2) We remodel and make use of existing die casting machines in-house. (3) We continuously improve our production technology and manufacturing processes by adding human experience and human wisdom. We received the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award in the 2001 Prize for Creativity for these efforts. We have production plants in Dalian and Shenzhen, China, and have also established a global parts supply system. We conduct joint research with Tohoku University and the Industrial Technology Institute of Miyagi Prefecture on new developments of zinc die casting.

[Business description]
We mainly produce zinc die casting products and deliver them to major electric equipment manufacturers. Differences in the degrees of incidence and reflection angle of a laser beam become fatal in optical pickup parts for DVD recorders. This is why high precision of 1/1000 mm is required for the parts that fix the laser beam source and light-receiving section. We have achieved high-precision casting in the field of zinc die casting, which had been regarded as difficult. We made it possible to stably supply 10 million pieces a month, and we now account for about 30% of the global market for optical pickup parts. We have received high evaluations for the high precision and high quality of our products. We have been receiving continuous orders from Microsoft in the US since 2012.

[Strength of products/technologies]
We achieved a tension strength of 500 MPa (1.7 times the conventional value) in the new die-cast zinc alloy we developed in 2010. This has made it possible to replace high-strength parts made by machining precious metal injection molding (MIM), SUS, brass, and so on. We achieved a substantial cost reduction to about one-tenth because of high productivity, and this has been highly evaluated by our customers. We have also been working on advanced technology development since 2011, including high-quality zinc alloy and a related casting machine. This received Strategic Technology Advancement Program approval in FY2011. Our screw parts for antennas have been delivered to a worldwide cellular phone manufacturer, and the product quality has resulted in their designation as the global standard.

[Representative's message]
We are planning further market expansion by making use of the cost merits of the high-strength zinc alloy we have developed. We are already receiving many inquiries from overseas companies about the performance and cost of our new zinc alloy. We think that transactions with major overseas companies (such as Microsoft and Apple) are crucial. Substantial cost reduction also enables production in Japan. Japanese enterprises are worrying about cost differences with China and Asian countries, and these companies consider our new alloy proposals to be effective. We aim to expand our sales, and to become a unique company as a high technology and manufacturing group that focuses on die casting. This is being done by making full use of the production capacity of our China factories and the development and manufacturing technology of our HQ factory in Japan.

[Company structure for market development/overseas expansion]
Compliance with the TS standard is required by Amphenol Phoenix, a US device manufacturer of cell phone terminal equipment. We have satisfied this requirement by constructing a quality assurance system that makes use of analysis technology and management methods (we have acquired ISO 9001 certification). We also started to do business with Microsoft (parts for Surface products) from FY2012. We have established a technical support system with cooperation between our Chana factories and the HQ factory in Japan. We are praised by customers in Japan and abroad for high productivity in our China factories and advanced analysis and inspection evaluation abilities in our HQ factory in Japan. We have assigned sales staff in our China factories, and we have a system to handle direct orders from foreign countries. We have established a point of contact in our technology department for transactions with domestic Japanese enterprises in order to provide sincere support for our customers.

[Market share/Ranking]
We have recorded a 30% share of the global market for optical pickup parts for DVDs.
