SDC Tanaka Inc.

We have developed “SDC Bolt,” a product with excellent corrosion resistance, and introduced bolts and fasteners in various business fields.

We manufacture various types of specialty bolts and fasteners for water, construction, medical, semiconductor, aircraft, and other industries that include our brand-name product “SDC Bolt.” We have established diversified technologies and have even entered the aerospace industry with our plasma surface hardening technologies. We are currently engaged in research and development to utilize corrosion-resistant Glass-like Carbon (GLC) film for electrodes.

[Company strength]
We develop our diverse products during monthly “development meetings.” In the meeting, the management and the heads of various departments, including the Administration Department, the Product Department, and the Engineering Department, get together to examine and discuss multi-pronged approaches from perspectives on sales and marketing, production, technologies, and so on. After the development meeting, the Engineering Department conducts specific experimental validation for trial manufacturing, and the results are repeatedly examined and discussed at subsequent development meetings. Thus, we gather in-house knowledge to tackle development of new products.

[Business description]
Since our foundation in 1981, we have specialized in the manufacture and sale of screws, bolts, and fasteners. During the 1980s, we invented patent technologies to treat surfaces of stainless steel bolts and carried out commercialization with focus on the development of new products, including our brand-name product, “SDC Bolt.” We succeeded in directly drawing out technical needs from aircraft manufacturers in the USA through sales promotion of SDC Bolt. Our joint research with the Technology Research Institute of Osaka Prefecture to find ways to satisfy such technical requirements resulted in the patent registration of the “SDC Surface Hardening Treatment,”. The technology is applicable to various metal components including titanium and stainless steel parts. It is also utilized for the titanium threaded fasteners of “Kibo,” the Japanese experiment module in the International Space Station, which led to the commercialization of the new “SDC Clean-Bolt” series.

[Industry]
Manufacture of specialty bolts and fasteners

[Strength of products/technologies]
We possess various patented technologies related to plasma hardening treatment of titanium and stainless steel surfaces. We also have several domestic and foreign product patents for which we further we have consolidated our knowledge. We have successfully added extra values to “screws,” which are the most fundamental mechanical components, to build our strength upon our unique technologies applied in business fields related to manufacturing equipment/processes and threaded screws. An example is the patent registration of the “SDC Plasma Surface Hardening Process Equipment,” which was selected and completed as a subsidized project of New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) of Japan in 2003. In recent years, we have been engaged in the research and development aimed to utilize corrosion-resistant Glass-like Carbon (GLC) film for electrodes; the GLC film possesses the same degree of corrosion resistance as conductive platinum developed by our technologies.

[Representative's message]
We owe our growth to our experience in satisfying the client needs in various industries with quality and stable supply and proposing new added values. Moreover, we have succeeded in expanding our scope of business into the aerospace industry with our plasma surface hardening treatment, which we developed thanks to the needs of engineers of aircraft manufacturers. We also acquired the JISQ 9100 certification, the quality management system of the aerospace industry. We are determined to exert ourselves to secure safety and trust of crews and passengers in the global aerospace industry.

[Company structure for market development/overseas expansion]
We acquired the ISO 9001 certifications in 1996 ahead of many companies in Japan. We have carried out thorough quality control since the initial release of the SDC Bolt series in 1981, and succeeded in developing the “SDC” brand as a proof of quality assurance. In 1984, we established SDC U.S.A., our local company in the USA, and subsequently, we founded SDC Inc., an affiliate manufacturer in Japan. We obtained the JISQ 9100 certification with additional aerospace requirements made in 2010 as part of our activities aimed at quality assurance. In April 2012, we integrated all the businesses of Tanaka Inc. into SDC Inc. and innovated our in-house structure under the new name, SDC Tanaka Inc.

[Market share/Ranking]
100% share of the domestic and foreign markets of the SDC Plasma Surface Hardening Treatment (our patent technology); 100% shares of the domestic and foreign markets of our patented products including the SDC Clean-Bolt series.
