HIKARI KOGYO Co., Ltd.

A metal processing company that produces parts for fuel injection rails with its deep drawing technology.

We are a metal stamping business that has been producing automotive engine components in an integrated manner. Our components for fuel injection rails, which supply fuel to engines, are adopted by most Japanese auto makers. We also engage in stainless plate forging, which is one of the difficult-to-process materials, and have started mass production of some related products. We have experienced joint research projects with private corporations and universities. We are now preparing overseas expansion through a feasibility study in southeastern Asia under F/S support by the Organization for Small & Medium Enterprises and Regional Innovation, JAPAN.

[Company strength]
We are a stamping technologies company that carries out research and development together with customers based on their needs. We do not regard ourselves as a subcontractor, but rather an OEM partner who performs certain tasks that cannot be done by customers. Our business model is not customer dependent. We do not simply perform tasks based on customer instructions, but more proactively offer proposals for customer profits and eventual win-win for them and us. We have established solid relations with our customers, and secured a sound financial base.

[Business description]
We are a metal stamping company and deal mainly with automotive engine related components. In addition to press processing itself, we handle start-to-finish production, which covers the following: prototyping, die designing, die manufacturing, press processing, post-processing, cleaning, sub-assembly, surface treatment (produced overseas), and inspection, depending on customer requests.

Metal stamping business

[Strength of products/technologies]
Our housing injector, which uses a deep drawing technology for mirror finishing inner surfaces, has been adopted by most of the Japanese auto manufacturers as a key part to supply fuel to engines. It has been designated as an important security part as well, and we proudly believe that we are the only company who can supply this part at this price and in this quantity. In recent years, we have been working on stainless steel forging by stamping machines, which is thought to be extremely difficult. This is to cope with customer demand for replacement of machined parts. We started mass production of some of these products in 2013, and are planning to further expand in future.

[Representative's message]
We have kept our domestic production policy and rejected many requests by our major clients to go overseas. Our basic stance has not changed, but with many of our clients moving overseas, we are no longer able to flatly decline the idea of going overseas ourselves. We have not made a final decision to set up an overseas base, but we will carefully collect information and make preparations since the success of overseas expansion will certainly and directly affect our future.

[Company structure for market development/overseas expansion]
With our major clients in the auto industry expanding their overseas production, we have been preparing ourselves to provide them with support even outside Japan. As part of our effort, we established in February 2013 our Overseas Strategic Planning Office and started the F/S for overseas business expansion. In this fiscal year, under F/S support by the Organization for Small & Medium Enterprises and Regional Innovation, JAPAN, we conducted a feasibility survey for our business expansion in southeast Asia.

[Market share/Ranking]
We estimate that our housing injectors are used in about 35% of Japanese cars produced worldwide.
