Okinawa Protein Tomography Ltd.

We provide structure analysis services for biopolymer visualization.

We provide structure analysis services that visualize proteins and other biopolymers at the single-molecule level. Our tomography-based services combine cryo-electron microscopy and a 3D structure analysis program (COMET) developed by OIST. We deliver the results of analyzing a 1-µg sample solution. We can analyze a sample without crystallization to ascertain structural changes of complex proteins. Our company has provided structure analysis services for protein complexes for Sysmex Corporation and structure analysis services for intercellular tight junctions for Ehime University.

[Representative's message]
Our aim from the beginning of our establishment has been to be a global company born in Okinawa. We anticipate that overseas customers will be quicker to decide to implement new technologies. It takes time until a new technology is accepted in a market. We aim to receive our first orders from customers outside Japan to begin with. Our targets are Europe, the USA, and Singapore. We do not know where our business will start from among these three big markets, but we are in a hurry to make a breakthrough. We will start with a service provision business model. The ownership of the analysis results is clearly defined, so we will have no problems with intellectual property, which often causes issues in overseas business.

[Company structure for market development/overseas expansion]
Our company has experience with sales activities and receiving orders in the Japanese market, but we think now is the time for us to develop relationships with agencies. We understand the importance of overseas markets, and we started marketing activities outside Japan last year. We will continue to participate in biotechnology-related exhibitions and trade fairs sponsored by JETRO. Our target markets are Europe, the USA, and Singapore. We have already concluded a sales consultation contract in Europe with a Swedish company and are our continuing sales activities. We have concluded a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) with a company in Singapore as a candidate agency. We have not made any decisions about the USA. Our president is in charge of sales channel cultivation and overseas business expansion, but we recently employed overseas marketing staff.
