Hemming system
Necessity of the hemming system
For example, consider automobile doors. They do not show unprocessed iron plate edges: the edges are always folded. Large press machines or dedicated folding machines used to be used for this processing. However, improvements were called for because of various disadvantages, such as large spaces necessary for machine installation and comparatively high costs.
Efforts of TRI Engineering
Our company took note of a robot-based hemming system to solve these issues. A robot with rollers realizes neat folding by pressing against the iron plate, like sliding the fingertips to crease origami when folding. A method capable of producing high quality with little applied pressure was born on the basis of a bending theory that differs from conventional press hemming and tabletop hemming.
Achievements to date
Our company developed this robot hemming system in 1991, earlier than any other party in the world, and acquired the basic patent in the same year (18 patents by 2013). Toyota Motor Corporation adopted this system in 1992. Now all Japanese automobile manufacturers and also overseas automobile manufacturers are using our robot hemming systems.
We released a servo pressure type robot hemming system in 2013 by totally innovating the conventional mechanism and changing the roller pressurizing method from hydraulic control to servomotor control. We provide expert technology to robots to realize fine smart processing. This robotics technology continues to evolve.

[Company strength]
Monozukuri craftsmanship is about crafting people. We believe that we will certainly be able to improve the our product quality and also the technologies producing them if we have high aspirations. We will also be able to grow the dreams of our staff. Human resources can be cultivated by providing exciting and thrilling dreams. We implemented 3D CAD as early as 2004 to give shape to customer needs, and we also educated designers to have perfect command of these systems. Our manufacturing technology staff assemble units into robots and conduct on-site installation adjustments after the manufacturing process. We possess know-how that we have accumulated by dealing with automobile manufacturers in Japan and abroad, and by handling various cases. We now need our human resources to upgrade technologies and products by applying this know-how.

[Business description]
Our company successfully developed the world’s first robot hemming system in 1991. We have delivered 270 systems and about 800 products to date. We apply technologies cultivated through our experience with hemming systems to develop robot system products to expand the potential of robots. We are a comprehensive manufacturer conducting R&D for robot system products and promoting robot-based system integration. We sell robot machining systems, robot laser cutting systems, robot FSW (friction stir welding) equipment, and other production equipment and dedicated machines, including robot simulation software. We also sell free-design jigs made of ABS resin by making use of the characteristics of a 3D printer.

[Strength of products/technologies]
We developed our robot hemming system in 1991. This groundbreaking system has many advantages compared with conventional methods. Equipment investment decreases because of cost reduction for exclusive parts, and there are fewer limits on installation locations because the system is compact and does not require foundation work. It can feed various kinds of workpieces both in and out, and is suitable for processing from high-mix low-volume production to mass production by combining a robot with jigs. The lightweight jigs enable easy replacement. Our products are optimal for trial manufacturing and service part production, and teaching-based quality adjustment leads to high quality.

[Representative's message]
Monozukuri craftsmanship is about crafting people. I think it is my job to consider what we should do for this. We will certainly be able to improve the quality of our products and also the technologies producing them as well as grow the dreams of our staff if we have high aspirations. I think human resources can be cultivated by providing exciting and thrilling dreams. I hope J-GoodTech will give us opportunities to meet companies that can be potential users of our products.
