We develop next-generation LED light sources and controllers for plant cultivation.

Our company was founded as a venture of The University of Kitakyushu, and develops, produces and sells, mainly to researchers, LED light sources and pulse controllers for plant cultivation. We aim to turn ideas from the university into business, that is, “Results of research on plant photosynthesis” in the biological environment, in collaboration with commercial technologies related to optical semiconductors and IC circuits and optical designs of the Fukuoka Industrial Technology Center of the Mechanics and Electronics Research Institute. As a result, we provide next-generation LED light sources in an integrated manner from design to fabrication. In addition to developing the light source apparatus, we conduct demonstration experiments in order to accumulate know-how about plant cultivation in university laboratories, affiliated farms, and our in-house facilities.

[Company strength]
Our company was founded as a venture of The University of Kitakyushu. Thus, we can effectively apply the results to the development and customization of LED light sources.


[Business description]
Our company develops, produces and sells, mainly to researchers, LED light sources and pulse controllers for plant cultivation. We also manufacture customized LED light sources and LED lighting controllers.
We provide lighting environment measurement services (illuminance, irradiance, photosynthetic photon flux density, and spectral irradiance).
We have been developing and demonstrating LED light sources and LED lighting controllers for plant cultivation with the support of a research and development subsidy project for two and a half years since our venture was established.
We are continuously improving light sources and developing novel equipment in the field of our specialty.

[Strength of products/technologies]
We have an integrated system throughout, from design to fabrication of the light source having a duty control function (in steps of 10%) for each color and further utilizing our unique technologies including reduction of wasted light (patented) for obtaining high luminous energy, flattening the light distribution, and ultra-high speed lighting control (approximately 1 MHz). Our high luminous-energy type LED light source produces luminous energy equal to sunlight in summer in the blue, red and infrared wavelengths.
We respond to various requests submitted by various cultivation environments such as the laboratories of universities and actual production facilities. The requests include a number of parameters, for example, cultivation area, irradiation distance, and irradiation wavelength. We are always improving our technology by utilizing simulators on the basis of our core competence accumulated in the research and development subsidy project, etc.



[Representative's message]
We will continue to develop to meet domestic demand appropriate to our company scale for the time being. However, there may be global issues to be addressed in the long term, such as population increase, water depletion, food crises, and global warming or cooling. We believe that innovation in vegetation production is necessary to solve these problems. We are accumulating know-how of plant cultivation which is indispensable in vegetation factories in collaboration with industry, universities and the government, and also preparing to expand overseas.



[Company structure for market development/overseas expansion]
President Kihara is in charge of sales channel development and overseas expansion. We will meet the specific needs of customers in developing, designing and manufacturing customized equipment by using our technology development capabilities. We estimate that the overseas market demand for plant cultivation will increase in cold regions. We plan to conduct demonstration experiments in Hokkaido in collaboration with industry, universities and the government in order to accumulate know-how of plant cultivation in cold regions (high latitude areas where there is much less sunshine in winter).

We collaborated with the Fukuoka Industrial Technology Center of the Mechanics and Electronics Research Institute on the following R&D themes to conduct the optical design of lenses for obtaining LED light emitting angles (directional angles).

2. “Development and demonstration of an LED light source for supplemental lighting in strawberry cultivation” (continuing from 2015)
