Manabe Zoki Company Limited
We succeeded in developing the world’s first inverter-controlled electrohydraulic crane.
We are a comprehensive manufacturer of deck machinery for ships, such as various types of deck cranes. Since our foundation, we have applied our unrivaled technologies to produce a wide range of anchor windlasses, mooring winches, and cargo winches with diesel powered, electric and electrohydraulic engines. We developed an industry-first electric winch in 1999, the technology for which was applied to cranes for ships’ use to develop the world’s first inverter-controlled electrohydraulic crane in 2010. We also acquired ISO 9001 certification in 2000. In recent years, we have actively penetrated overseas markets by establishing sales agencies in Taiwan and India as well as in Japan.
[Company strength] We believe that after-sales service is the strongest sales activity. We have a number of service sites in Japan and abroad to ensure a quick response and ease of mind for ocean-going ships equipped with our products. We have promptly developed innovative products under the keywords “environmentally conscious” and “energy saving”. We currently endeavor to develop cutting-edge products, for example, completely electric-powered cranes and a low-noise oil booster (pump unit) “S300”. [Business description] We are a comprehensive manufacturer of deck machinery for ships, such as various types of deck cranes. Our company was established in 1955 as a casting manufacturer for ships’ use. Since then, we have made full use of our unrivaled technologies to produce a wide range of anchor windlasses, mooring winches, and cargo winches with diesel powered, electric and electrohydraulic engines. In 1982, we developed an electrohydraulic deck crane, in 1987 a bucket crane, and in 2001 an inverter-controlled electric deck machine, while acquiring ISO 9001 certification in 2000. Our products, such as large-sized special winches for work ships on ocean routes, are used around the world. [Industry] Manufacturing of general-purpose machines and instruments [Strength of products/technologies] Hydraulic driven systems have so far been the mainstream system in the field of deck machinery for ships’ use. However, there is a problem of environmental contamination due to oil leakage and heavy maintenance load. We developed an industry-first electric winch in 1999 to solve this problem. Furthermore, we applied the technology to cranes for ships to develop the world’s first inverter-controlled electrohydraulic crane in 2010. The crane increased the efficiency of cargo handling time by 10–20% and reduced energy by 5–10% in comparison with conventional cranes. We will keep developing innovative products to meet the needs of customers throughout the world. [Representative's message] The manufacturers of newly-built general merchant ships are changing and expanding from the past big three of China, Korea and Japan to Taiwan, the Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and India. Taking into account offshore ships, the globalization of shipbuilding continues to progress, with other shipbuilding countries also gaining in importance. In recent years, we have actively penetrated overseas markets by establishing sales agencies in Taiwan and India as well as in Japan. We are planning to increase the overseas sales ratio to 50% within three or four years. [Company structure for market development/overseas expansion] Sales for overseas customers is conducted from the base office in Tokyo. One managing director and two staff members deal exclusively with orders from abroad.
