Aoyama Motor Drive Technology Co., Ltd.

We are the first startup from Aoyama Gakuin University, and we are applying control technology to take on the challenge of FCVs.

Our company was established in 2006 as a startup from Aoyama Gakuin University. We manufacture and sell power electronics product hardware and motor control software, and provide consultation about power electronics. We support commercialization by combining a theoretical approach with technical staff that are only available from a startup within a university. We excel at implementing high performance at low cost, including position and current sensorless control and vector control. This is done by applying high-level motor and inverter control technology and power supply inverters. We are taking on the challenge of HVs, EVs, and FCVs in the automobile field.

・Quick turnaround: We recommend using our standard inverter board if you have no time. The standard board will enable performance checks much earlier than when customized boards are used.
・Presentation of technical information: We can provide all design resources in most cases, including circuit diagrams, Gerber data, and source code.
・Safe evaluation: We use our own motor bench (15,000 min-1/250 Nm) for evaluation.
We make the most of state-of-the-art technologies such as sensorless position and current control, vector control, dead-time compensation, overmodulation control, and single pulse control. Our technologies include parameter identification, torque ripple reduction waveform control, and high-performance one-shunt current detection. Our company also possesses motor and parameter measuring technology. We measure even dq axis inductance current saturation characteristics, which are critical for IPMSM position control without sensors.
・If you have no specifications, we will create them by ascertaining the requested functions and performance.
・If you only provide a motor, we will measure its parameters. (IPM motors, SR motors, IM motors, etc.)
・We can design and create boards for automotive use using automotive-grade parts and create trial articles.
・Our company handles rated voltages from low (12V, 48V) to high (300V). (We can support other voltages as well. Please consult us.)

[Company strength]
Our company has advantages in fields where high-level motor and inverter control technology and power supply inverters are applied to implement high performance at low cost. This includes position and current sensorless control, vector control, and over-modulation PWM control. We have a motor bench in-house that supports up to 80 kW and 1500 Nm, and we have extensive experience with circuit design and embedded software. We promote our company as a one-stop solution provider for power electronics. We develop hardware at the automotive equipment level, as well as software. Our company helps customers commercialize products with predetermined specifications, and also articles that have not yet been decided by giving shape to what they have in mind.

[Business description]
Our company was established in 2006 as a startup from Aoyama Gakuin University. Our services include: (1) hardware development and sales for power electronics products; (2) software development and sales for motor control and so on; and (3) consultation related to power electronics. We are a university startup, so we have fully inherited a theoretical approach. Our company has great cost awareness, which has been enhanced through our consignment and in-house development of more than 400 products. We now develop products with great cost performance that surprise our customers. We manufacture products on consignment, and also provide standard systems and tools that are ready for immediate use. We assist in ODM production of products featuring high cost performance and quality in collaboration with EMS companies in Japan and abroad.

Power electronics product development

[Strength of products/technologies]
We excel in motor control technology. We support sensorless control of brushless motors (sinusoidal waveform drive) for highly reliable high-speed motor drives at low cost, and we have extensive experience with compressor inverters for air conditioners. Our current sensorless control (single-shunt or triple-shunt) supports compact, low-priced products (particularly optimal for home electronics appliances). Our parameter measurement technology is applied to motor constant measurement tools (efficient adjustment of each system) as well as dead-time compensation pattern measurement. We are capable of combining embedded software and circuit technology. We can select an optimal microcomputer for system implementation (cost reduction), and provide size and cost reduction by matching with circuit technology. We support original real-time RAM monitoring (for 8-, 16-, and 32-bit MCUs).

[Representative's message]
FY2015 marked the milestone of our 10th anniversary, and our sales exceeded 200 million yen in the previous fiscal year thanks to our customers’ patronage. Our company will add one employee to our staff so that more customers than ever will be able to make use of our technology. We will continue to work hard to accelerate our contribution to an energy-saving society as stated in our corporate vision. Home electronics appliances have been at the forefront of energy conservation in daily life. However, hybrid vehicles (HVs), electric vehicles (EVs), and fuel cell vehicles (FCVs) mainly driven by motors have been gradually taking the leading position. Our company has advantages in the automotive field, but we want to take on further challenges.

We participated in the 34th Motor Tech Show held at Makuhari Messe, Chiba Prefecture, Japan in April 2016. We are strengthening our connections to our current Chinese site (partner company) to further improve production quality, cost reduction, and turnaround time reduction at our Chinese EMS.
