Dainichi Electronics Co., Ltd.

We developed the wireless equipment used on the Maido No. 1 satellite.

We are a wireless system manufacturer established in 1953. Focusing primarily on the power utility and railway sectors, we manufacture and sell our own wireless telephone units, communication control units, remote control units, power supply units, and wireless systems that combine these units. We have done business with major domestic power utilities as well as with Sanyo Electric Railway, Kobe Electric Railway, Hitachi Kokusai Electric, Toshiba, and other leading corporations. We were involved with the development of the Maido No. 1 satellite, and we were responsible for the development of the satellite’s wireless communication devices and lightning monitoring equipment. We designed and developed lightning sensors and other equipment used on the International Space Station. We were selected as one of 300 Energetic SME Manufacturers by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry’s Small and Medium Enterprise Agency.

[Industry]
Manufacturing industry

[Strength of products/technologies]
We design, manufacture, and carry out quality assurance testing of components, units, devices, and systems. This means we can minimize the design change costs if a part is discontinued and continue manufacturing the equipment, which is a huge benefit for users of trains and long-service-life applications. Furthermore, we distinguish ourselves from other firms through our design technology. We cut the development time and cost by designing structural components with 3D CAD systems and by using advanced CAD and simulation systems for analog circuit design, high-frequency circuit design, digital circuit design, and the design of program software for microcomputers and FPGAs. We have also designed and developed lightning sensors and other equipment used on the International Space Station.

[Representative's message]
1. Our wireless systems require installation work and maintenance operations. For distant locations, we recruit agents to sell our products and local contractors to carry out maintenance operations on our behalf.
2. We take inquiries from all fields, regardless of whether they are connected to our products or not. If we cannot help a prospective client, we will introduce them to other specialized firms using our extensive network of industry contacts. We welcome window shoppers.

[Company structure for market development/overseas expansion]
Existing users of analog wireless in Japan sequentially update their equipment as operations demand it. Therefore, from the perspective of major wireless providers, the market is too small to be profitable, and they are exiting the business. But for SMEs like us, this size of market is very attractive. We have signed direct contracts with power utilities and other large users that are having difficulties because of the exit of venders. To obtain contracts, we utilize trade promotions, banking on our media exposure after the success of the Maido No. 1 satellite. We are not actively considering overseas expansion.

[Market share/Ranking]
Fifty percent share of the analog wireless market for the power industry
(Our position varies between power utilities. We are the No. 1 supplier for Kansai Electric Power and Chugoku Electric Power and the No. 2 supplier for Chubu Electric Power.)
