Aikawa Iron Works Co., Ltd.

We are an established machine manufacturer that contributes to papermaking industries in Japan and abroad.

We are a machine manufacturer established in 1924. Our company develops and sells paper material adjustment and papermaking-related machines such as double-disk refiners, screens, and cleaners, mainly for the papermaking industry. We possess know-how on used paper recycling, and we develop new technologies utilizing our existing crushing, defibration, separation, sorting, dewatering, dispersion, and water treatment technologies. These applications are intended for entry into non-papermaking fields. Our customers include both domestic Japanese and overseas companies. These include Oji Paper, Nippon Paper Industries, and Daio Paper, as well as Klingele Papierwerke (Germany), Nicol-Pack (Russia), Cartiera Cadidavid (Italy), and Asia Paper (Korea).

[Company strength]
Our sales, design, technology, manufacturing, and testing and development departments work together under an integrated production system we established for developing new products. Our customers can check performance and conduct physical property testing using many demo units at our development and testing laboratory. We have established plants in Finland, Canada, Korea, and China to promote sales on the global market. We are also involved in crafting people, as shown in our operation of Aikawa Gakuen Seisei High School.

[Business description]
In 1954 our company developed Japan’s first continuous paper material adjustment machine, the Super Refiner. This product assisted in the rapid development of the domestic Japanese paper industry. We have developed many paper material adjustment and papermaking-related machines since then as a leading manufacturer in this field, including double-disk refiners, screens, and cleaners. We also offer used paper recycling technologies. We supply other kinds of crushing, defibration, separation, sorting, dewatering, dispersion, and water treatment technologies gained from our experience to benefit our customers.

Machine manufacturing

[Strength of products/technologies]
Continuous 24-hour operation is a requirement in the paper industry. Our company has developed, manufactured, and delivered high-quality, high-efficiency machines in various sizes, and helped our customers to stabilize their operations. We have also achieved the world’s highest level of precision in boring for papermaking screen baskets (filters). Our development teams support customers so our machines can be used for non-papermaking applications.

[Representative's message]
Our company purchased two companies in 2006: Advanced Fiber Technology (FT Inc.) and Piece of Mind Technology (POMT). This was done in response to the globalization of the world market and severe competition with other countries. Production and management sites in Finland and the global sales channels of these companies have helped us to gain a foothold in the global market. We plan to reinforce and expand these channels, with the aim of becoming the leading supplier in the global market. We will provide cutting-edge technologies, products, and services that we have nurtured in our production of paper material adjustment machines. We will also work hard to offer original products to a wide range of other industries.

[Company structure for market development/overseas expansion]
We established a new business development department in 2014 to cultivate markets. This department now functions as the point of contact for potential customers in non-paper industries. The product development department handles development projects with new designs, while our overseas sales department manages overseas projects.

[Market share/Ranking]
Our papermaking refiner has the largest share (90%) of the domestic Japanese market, and our papermaking screen has a 50% market share, which is also the largest in Japan.

[Awards and media coverage]
2013 Sasaki Award, for our Max Flow Screen (2013), which was the ninth time for us to receive this award, after first receiving it in 1988; Good Company Award (1968).
