The technology of manufacturing electron tubes is now rare in Japan
We can do special work on the now rare technology of manufacturing electron tubes, by using our manufacturing techniques. The special work includes glass processing, metal & glass welding, vacuum pumping, gas filling and handling cathodes and phosphor. Our mainline business includes special electron tube manufacturing and glass processing. We handle vacuum tubes, vacuum gauges, phosphor panels, filament cathodes, and gas discharge tubes from the development stage, trial manufacturing through to experimentation. In 1998, we began trial manufacture of materials using carbon nanotubes (CNT) as a cold cathode source, which was earlier than any other company. We are conducting the applied development of a field-emission electron source by combining CNT with phosphor.
[Company strength] We can do special work on the now rare technology of manufacturing electron tubes by using our manufacturing techniques. The special work includes glass processing, metal & glass welding, vacuum pumping, gas filling, and handling of cathodes and phosphor. Our business is certified by the Industrial Promotion Section of Ota City as "New Product and Technology Development Support Project 2011" and by the Kanto Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry as "Strategic Core Technology Advancement Program 2010." In addition, we have acquired several patents. [Business description] We manufacture special electron tubes and process glass. Our products include vacuum tubes, vacuum gauges, phosphor panels, filament cathodes, metal prints, spectroscopic glass cells, gas discharge tubes, electron tubes for school teaching and pressure-resistant glass test tubes. Our services include metal printing, gas analysis, vacuum degassing and develop and trial manufacture of vacuum tubes. We also develop and manufacture trial products and conduct experiments and evaluations. Since carbon nanotubes (CNT) have attracted a great deal of attention as a new material, we started the trial manufacture of these materials around 1998, aiming at the use of CNT as a cold cathode source. We are conducting the applied development of a field-emission electron source by combining CNT with phosphor. [Industry] Special electron tube manufacturing and glass processing [Strength of products/technologies] The manufacture of electron tubes starts by selecting materials and considering the characteristics of various metals and glass. We design products and manufacture parts by machining (outsourced). After pretreatment such as washing and vacuum degassing, the parts are precisely assembled in glass tubes. Glass welding makes an airtight seal around the glass tubes to allow vacuum pumping or gas filling. These processes require special work such as bonding glass with different metals as well as special facilities, jigs and tools. We have an integrated system and necessary skills for the processes. [Representative's message] Our company developed a cathode element and disk by coating iridium (Ir) with yttrium oxide (Y2O3). The cathode functions at lower temperature and power consumption than the conventional tungsten (W) cathode. The material is environmentally friendly, compared with radioactive thoriated tungsten (ThW) which has the same performance. The material is difficult to process even internationally and will be recognized as a new thermionic cathode. We expect that new sales channels will open in future. [Company structure for market development/overseas expansion] Our company is now indirectly exporting electron tube products for school teaching to North America through a trading firm exporting teaching materials. In addition to the teaching materials, we intend to expand the business of iridium-ittria coated (Ir-Y203) filaments as new cathode parts outside Japan. Our overseas expansion is under consideration because we are in a niche market and the corresponding international market is difficult to research. [Market share/Ranking] We think we are the only SME in Japan, using technology of CRT electron guns, special electron tubes, and vacuum tubes.
