Our business is built around apatite applied products such as high-performance whitening toothpaste. 

We are a manufacturer of oral care products such as medicated toothpaste, antibacterial agents, chemical products, and health beverages. Our main product is a toothpaste that contains hydroxyapatite, which is one of the main components of teeth and bones, and our product lineup itself mostly comprises hydroxyapatite mixed products. We successfully developed the world’s first dental enamel restoring toothpaste in 1978, which was inspired by a patent filed by NASA. Our company has been dedicated to R&D on hydroxyapatite applied technologies ever since. In 1995 we launched our Apagard whitening toothpaste, and the product attracted attention with its advertising copy noting that teeth are vital for entertainers. This product now has a 40% share of the market for high-performance whitening toothpaste.

[Company strength]
Our company develops and sells mostly hydroxyapatite contained products. Hydroxyapatite, which is the main component of teeth and bones, is a biomaterial, and it is a kind of calcium phosphate. Our company was inspired by a NASA bioceramics related patent soon after our foundation. We succeeded in developing the world’s first hydroxyapatite enamel restorative toothpaste four years later in 1978. Since then we have been dedicated to R&D regarding hydroxyapatite technologies in multiple fields, including oral care. 

[Business description]
(1) We develop, manufacture, and sell oral care products such as toothpaste containing medical hydroxyapatite (<mHAP>). Our company supplies products under own brands APAGARD, APADENT, and Denta-Apato, and to other companies on an OEM basis.
(2) We develop, manufacture, and sell Apacider antibacterial agent, various special hydroxyapatite (HAP) products, and chemical products.
(3) We develop, manufacture, and sell hydroxyapatite-related food additives and "O-kara-cha,” a tea derived from roasted o-kara, the protein-rich byproduct that remains after tofu has been produced from Soyabeans as a health beverage.


[Strength of products/technologies]
Our original technology, nano medical hydroxyapatite (nano<mHAP>) was approved by the then Ministry of Health and Welfare in 1993 as a medical ingredient for cavity prevention. In 2003 we reduced its particle size from the previous three-digit nanometer range to the single-digit nanometer range (one nanometer is one billionth of a meter). We have other hydroxyapatite applications under development in addition to hydroxyapatite contained toothpaste. These include a high-speed injection tooth decay treatment method (PJD) and a tooth decay related bacteria removal system (BRS). We also develop tooth-healthy food ingredients, silver-based inorganic antibacterial agents, a soluble drug made from an insoluble agent (DDS), and catalyzers for synthesizing fuels and chemical ingredients.

Our company has a policy of developing unique and unprecedented technologies. We have been dedicated to developing products in oral care field. Hydroxyapatite technology development projects need some lead time for pharmaceutical applications and scale-up, but market development can be groundbreaking. 

[Company structure for market development/overseas expansion]
Our new business development division has dedicated personnel for overseas market development who actively participate in overseas exhibitions and site tours. They also conduct exhibitions and presentations at international academic meetings. We launched an English-language website in March 2015.

Our medical hydroxyapatite contained products have a 5% share of the overall toothpaste market. Our flagship APAGARD whitening toothpaste product maintains a share of around 40% of the market for high-performance whitening toothpaste.
