SHINKOSHA CO., LTD.
We manufacture and sell oxide single crystal products and optical fiber components.
Our company has been manufacturing sapphire for 70 years. We possess other related technologies in addition to our core technologies. These include the formation and processing of crystals, including anti-reflective coating for crystals, and embedding in optical components. We manage crystal manufacturing processes from formation and processing to assembly under an integrated production system. We are involved from the design stage, and provide services according to the customer’s request. We have many regular corporate customers in Japan as well as joint R&D projects with academic institutions.
Other presentation
[Company strength] We have established an integrated production system that covers all the manufacturing processes of oxide single crystals, from formation and processing to assembly. The manufacturing process is designed based on our extensive knowledge of the material, so the quality of the resulting product is quite high. We try to get involved from the design phase, so we can provide optimal services for the customer’s situation. We can also supply products even if the ordered quantity is only a single piece, because high-mix low-volume production is one of our strengths. [Business description] Our company manufactures and sells oxide single crystal products (e.g., sapphire, rutile) and optical fiber components. Our main products are sapphire glass for luxury watches, and sapphire substrates for LEDs. We also deal with various other oxide single crystal products, including larger sapphire products, fine processed products, oxide single crystal substrates for thin film applications, and optical prisms. [Industry] Oxide single crystal product manufacturing and sales [Strength of products/technologies] Our company has been manufacturing sapphire for more than 65 years since its establishment. We have other related technologies in addition to our core technologies such as the formation and processing of crystals. These include anti-reflective coating on crystals, and embedding in optical components. We recently developed a technology for forming large sapphire ingots of 250 mm more, which allows us to provide large sapphire products whenever necessary. [Representative's message] The potential utility of oxide single crystals is not well known, but we believe that there will be more applications in the future, which are yet not known to us. We hope to bring about technological breakthroughs by supporting something that has not been realized before. Please contact us if you have such a project. [Company structure for market development/overseas expansion] We have 11 sales representatives (including 8 sales engineers) who function as the point of contact for customers. We have many direct overseas transactions, so responses are made in either English or Chinese, depending on the situation. Sales representatives are accompanied by the corresponding development or technology engineer when they visit a customer about a special technology. This is done so we can understand the customer’s needs more specifically. [Market share/Ranking] We have acquired the largest share of the domestic Japanese luxury watch sapphire market, and the third-largest share of the domestic Japanese market for sapphire substrates for LEDs. [Awards and media coverage] [Awards] 300 of Japan's Vibrant Monozukuri (Manufacturing) SMEs (2006). [Media] “DIME” magazine (2009); “Chronos” magazine (2012); “Tokei Begin” magazine (summer edition, 2014); “Innovative companies that take on challenges through the strength of their manufacturing power” (President, 2011); other articles. [Authorization/Certification] Acquired ISO 9001 certification (1997); Strategic Core Technology Advancement Program accreditation (2012); New Partnerships program approval (2013). [Joint research and development] Tokyo Institute of Technology (surface structure of oxide single crystal substrates), Tokyo University (physical properties of SrTiO3 single crystals), Tokyo Denki University (sapphire processing), and a number of other institutions. [Transaction form] Sales of products and materials, orders for trial manufacturing and development, OEM contracts, joint development, consignment manufacturing, and some other forms of business. [Transaction terms] To be decided after consultation. [Exhibition History/Information] Exhibition held by Japan Society of Applied Physics (every year); Gift Show (2011); World SME Expo in Hong Kong (2011); Hannover Messe (2008); SEMICON Japan (planned for December 2014); Exhibition held by Japan Society of Applied Physics (planned).
