Providing energy saving UV LEDs for use in a wide variety of fields

We have obtained many patents relating to UV LED structure and production methods and, through technical collaboration with an overseas LED manufacturer, have succeeded in delivering advanced technologies at low cost. We have a large market share in the UV light sources used for currency note identification in ATMs. We also supply optimal light sources for application in areas such as the curing of photo-resins and semiconductors, air purification, medical/biotech, high color rendering white LEDs and the like.

[Company strength]
We are a collaborative venture of industry and academia that was the first to successfully develop and mass produce UV LEDs, manufacturing products with output wavelengths of 355 nm ? 405nm. With MOCVD crystal growth as a core technology, we have produced 375nm and 400nm wavelength cylindrical UV LEDs with the world’s highest efficiency rate. UV LEDs are expected to be employed in an increasingly wide range of applications, including resin hardening, semiconductor curing, air purification, medical and biotechnology, and ultra high color reproducing white illumination. The replacing of traditional (mercury) ultraviolet lamps with UV LEDs offers major benefits in terms of energy conservation, prolonged life and reduced ecological impact.

[Strength of products/technologies]
We mount LED chips into packages optimal for each application, from resin shell to ceramic SMD to chip-on-board and more, with our core competence in crystal growth technology using metal organic vapor phase epitaxy (MOCVD).  A global pioneer, we have obtained numerous patents relating to UV LED configuration and production methods. Through technical alliance with overseas manufacturers, we have reduced manufacturing costs, making it possible to provide advanced technological capabilities at low cost.

We are a global pioneer in development and commercialization of UV LEDs. As semiconductor technologies advance, these devices have been improved dramatically during the past decade, with performance up 10,000-fold and prices reduced to 1/1,000. Our contribution and technical capabilities have gained strong recognition overseas.  Going forward, we intend to build on our success with UV light sources for ATM note recognition, for which the company holds a leading market position globally.  We also continue to strengthen our collaboration with other companies to provide optimal light sources for applications such as photo resin hardening, semiconductor curing, air purification, medical and biotechnology, and high color rendering white LEDs. We intend to continue our efforts as a UV LED pioneer in order to respond to rapidly changing market needs.

Since our foundation, our principal customers have been large corporations, with 25% of these overseas. For domestic customers, our basic philosophy is face-to-face communication, welcoming inquiries.  Regarding overseas companies, we will pay a visit when necessary, but most communications are currently handled via email and have been conducted smoothly.
