Automatic program transmission controllers for the cable TV industry, besides being a niche market, require finely tuned customization, backed by a store of technology, to fit each customer’s specific operating circumstances. We currently hold a 40% share of the market and, recently, a 60% share of the replacement-demand market. Our systems, with a 40-year track record of installations, have become the industry’s de facto standard automatic program transmission controllers. Furthermore, we have our own independent information sources, such as joint developments and technology transfers with the overseas manufacturers holding the No. 1 and No. 2 global market shares, and we maintain a development system our competitors cannot match.

Our company develops, manufactures, and sells automatic program transmission controllers (APCs) for cable TV stations. Our brand name VATIC is widely known in the industry, more so than our company name, as our products consolidate all APC functionality into an intuitive graphical interface for cable TV operators. We were one of the first companies to introduce file-based workflows from program creation to broadcast, and we have continued to release products that address the demands of cable TV stations, which has steadily pushed up our market share. Now that we command over 40% of the market, VATIC has become a de facto industry standard, and the VATIC workflow has become the standard workflow for TV station operations.

To survive as broadcasting businesses in the coming 4K era, cable TV stations will have to construct platforms to deliver community-focused information, over and above installing 4K broadcast equipment and systems. Stations’ competitiveness in the face of broadcasting by telecoms and others and their ability to improve audience satisfaction will be determined by the success of their platforms to deliver useful daily information closely tied to local communities, in normal times, and to deliver evacuation information and other disaster prevention and mitigation information during emergencies. To aid cable TV operators, we provide inexpensive systems that realize 4K workflows for the next-generation of 4K transmissions.

[Company structure for market development/overseas expansion]
We have built up a sales network in collaboration with our current APC sales partners — Itochu Cable Systems Co., Ltd., SCSK Corporation, and Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. Looking forward to 2020 however, we plan to establish development platforms that fully exploit the potential of cloud technologies and to move into the IP TV and digital signage fields, in addition to the cable TV market, so that we can address the higher resolutions (4K and 8K) of broadcast systems and the associated shift to IP broadcasting.
